Honolulu, Hawaii Blue Hawaiian Helicopters celebrated Girls in Aviation Day (GIAD) with an educational event for the Girl Scouts of Hawaii on Saturday, October 13, at its helicopter bases on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and Big Island. The initiative is in support of Women in Aviation International’s program introducing 8-17 year old girls to aviation and aerospace through various activities and learning experiences. This year marks the 4th annual GIAD, which is commemorated globally, and is estimated to receive participation from 15,000 girls worldwide
More than 200 girl scouts participated in this state-wide event. As a highlight of the program, girl scouts were given the opportunity to step inside a state-of-the art Blue Hawaiian Helicopter to better understand helicopter operation and the importance of safety. The young scouts met the company’s female team members – pilots, base manager, ramp boss, and mechanics — during an open-cockpit presentation and learned about exciting careers in aviation. At the end of the event, girl scouts were given a special patch from Blue Hawaiian Helicopters for participating.
“We strongly support efforts in introducing our future women leaders to the aviation industry,” said Meghan Lee, Director of Sales and Marketing for Blue Hawaiian. “What better way than to engage the Girl Scouts of Hawaii than in an interactive learning experience with our female pilots and team members?”
